Final Blog

I am very grateful that I left this class with various useful tools that I can use in the classroom. I enjoyed the projects and different assingmetns we had to complete. Granted, there were times when I found the assingments difficult. I am used to having more concrete guidlines for assignments, and by not having them was more of a challenge.

My favorite assignments were the podcasts and the digital stories. I really enjoyed making them and I could definitely see how they can be useful in the classrooms. I also enjoyed the visual vocabulary. This could be used in a Mathematics classroom as an introduction to many lessons. One assignment I did not quite enjoy making was the poster. It took a lot of "messing" with to make it look appealing. Although I do believe this assignment was very useful.

The talk with Will Richardson was very helpful. Even though I didn't ask questions, I learned a lot from him. I always looked at blogging as a tool for teachers in the field of English, but now I see how I can use it towards Mathematics.

Overall, I enjoyed this class and I am taking a lot from it that I will be able to use in my future as a Mathematics teacher. Thank you for making this class not only constructive but fun as well.

Questions for Will Richardson

1. What web tool do you believe would be most beneficial in a high school Mathematics classroom?

I am asking this question because I want to be a high school Mathematics teacher and I would love to be able to integrate technology into my classroom as much as possible.

2. What do you think is the best way for a Mathematics teacher to use blogging in their classroom?

I am asking this question because I would love to use blogging but I don't understand how it can be used in a Mathematics classroom.

Technocentric Design Theory Post

Technocentric Design Theory

One perspective regarding the attitudes towards human technology and its ability to affect, control, and even protect the environment is technocentrism. Technocentrics have confidence in technology and industry and strongly believe that humans have control over nature. In order to advance developed and developing countries and solutions to our environmental problems, technocentrics trust that we will find the answers through scientific and technological advancement. Essentially, technocenrtics rely heavily on technology.

When we think about technology and education, people have different views. On the one hand, many people think it will be useful for students to use computers and other types of technology to help them with their work. These people believe that it could increase students’ creativity and their interpersonal skills. Alternatively, technocentrism has many critics. These people are worried that students will become lazy about adding numbers because calculators can do it for them. Some even believe it could lead to the loss of handwriting skills since students will be typing more often. Whether people are for technology or not, it is seen more and more in classrooms and will continue to increase with time.
